Texas is not known for fall foliage as other states, but I found some beautiful autumn scenes tucked in East Texas. The backcountry Texas scenic drive from Palestine to Davy Crockett National Forest was full of hardwoods trees that is now at it’s peaked colors. Here are some of my drive recommendations to see fall foliage:

• Highway 7 west from Lufkin to Ratcliff Lake
• Highway 7 east or west through the forest
• Highway 227 south from Highway 21 to Ratcliff
• County Road 287 south from Palestine to Apple Springs
