I considered myself a fearless dirt bike rider, but one thing I won’t do is ride a bike that I can’t flat-foot until now. Ray, my husband, surprised me one afternoon literally just before our trip with a new & my first enduro dirt bike to our trip to the San Juan Mountains. Since I’m vertically challenge I could barely tiptoe with it which meant I had to ride the rocky, steep and technical trails praying I didn’t have to stop. Our adventure up to 12,600’ elevation Cinnamon Pass & American Basin was challenging to say the least as we were the only ones on dirt bikes and everyone else had a high clearance 4×4 Jeep. The trails were narrow and very rocky and although our dirt bikes were jetted for the high elevation, my 230 enduro dirt bike still had problems. In the back of my mind, I knew this was not smart, but I was on a mission to photograph the wildflowers and I just reminded myself that nothing in life worth doing is easy so I just got over my fear and hit full throttle on 2nd gear. I wish I could have stayed until sunset to capture this, but I knew it would be too dangerous so I settle for this shot.
