Wildflowers in Texas Hill County

Hi Guys. I was asked by the Photography Editor of Texas Highways Magazine to come to the opening of the The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin which celebrates spring with Wildflower Days, including The Spectacular Wow, an exhibit of Texas Highways’ springtime photos from the annual April wildflower issue. I will be there from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, April 25th. I will be on hand to talk shop, answer any questions, and review your photo work. If you are in the Austin area this coming weekend, stop by to say by and Hi.

Here is a recent photo taken in Burnet County in the Texas Hill Country. As the Texas bluebonnets starts to seed and slowly dimension, other wildflowers like the Lazy-eyed Susan and the Firewire have started to bloom. With all the recent rain, I think it would be good year.

Here is an intimate photo of the bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes as they are often seen growing together in a lot of areas in Texas. Alone these Texas wildflowers are quite beautiful, but paired together they are quite a showstopper.

Life has been amazingly hectic for me this past two weeks so much that I’ve been losing a lot of sleep and weight. Hopefully, in the next week or so things will sort itself out and I can go back to what I love which is photography. Here is my favorite Texas wildflower photo of the series taken a couple of weeks ago. I found this scenic mixture of wildflower meadow in Ellis County and went back several times before successfully photographing it.

As the Texas bluebonnets season comes to an end a second wave of wildflowers are starting to bloom. I found a small field of mixed Texas wildflowers with some hint of bluebonnets as well. Image is titled, “Fireworks” as it’s an explosion of colors from the beautiful sunrise, fog, and amazing display of Indian Paintbrush, Scarlet Gaura, Texas Star, Vernea, Pink Evening Primrose, and our beloved Texas bluebonnets.

While photographing the beloved Texas state flower, the bluebonnets, I started to notice there were some mixed wildflowers blooming along as well in Ennis. Ennis has been getting a little more rain this past few months than most areas here in the state so I guess it’s no surprise to see such an amazing and breathtaking display of Texas wildflowers growing along with the bluebonnets.
